'Littoral Line' ~ Acrylic on canvas 90x90cm

Another in my series of seascapes. I am always drawn to the contrast of transparency and reflection in water and enjoyed exploring it here.

I often work on the floor, as well as on an easel. I use so much water that it is necessary for each piece to be flat a some point!

Calm Sea - Acrylic on canvas 120 x 100cm

I have been thoroughly enjoying myself, as I prepare for the seascape exhibition at Ashdown Gallery. I love the sea and it's actually a great subject for this time of year. The landscape has been shrouded in cloud here for the last few months, but the sea always has light, colour and movement to inspire.

Mistletoe - Watercolour on St Cuthberts Mill Saunders Waterford ROUGH

This was worked over 2 sessions at my watercolour masterclass at Ashdown Gallery. We were looking at resist techniques, so here I used masking fluid and a little white birthday candle to help build depth to the stems. 

I wanted to keep the palette very muted and natural, using French Ultramarine, Olive Green, Cad Yellow, Indian Yellow and Cobalt turquoise light. All Winsor and Newton tubes as always.

Barn Owl - demonstration at Ashdown Gallery

Here is the result of the watercolour live demo I did at Ashdown Gallery, Forest Row, East Sussex to celebrate their 3rd Birthday. The painting was raffled during the evening with all proceeds going to the Philippines Appeal. 

A simple palette of indigo, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, ultramarine purple and sepia was used. I think I threw all sorts of techniques at him in order to show the audience the way I work.

Guell - Watercolour and ink on St Cuthberts Saunders Waterford

A memory of Barcelona that I have been itching to paint...

This is on a full sheet of Saunders Waterford ROUGH. I have worked the broken china tiles largely in French Ultramarine, yellow ochre, rose dore, alizarin crimson, perm rose, burnt sienna, manganese blue. I also used vodka to 'split' the paint. Caran d'ache watercolour pencils were very useful here too.

So sorry to have not posted anything for a free months! I have been busy honesty!

Here is one of my recent watercolours on Saunders Waterford. It has been built up with glazes of cobalt violet, yellow ochre, french ultramarine, quinacridone gold and sepia. Sea salt and nut brown drawing ink also an integral part as always!
