Trunk - Acrylic on canvas 33' x 23'

I have returned to the study of trees recently. This more abstract study of a silver birch explores the wonderful texture of bark. I have used a fairly limited palette and a variety of methods to describe the surface. I have dragged paint, poured washes over more built up areas and added dark, quiet areas of paint to contrast with the energy of the tree. I think it vital to 'anchor' the work with sharp, clean edges in places to really allow the quality of looser paint to shine (see detail below)
